At 18, I arrived in France alone with one suitcase and no clear map for what came next.

I grew up in Caracas as the son of Peruvian migrant parents. Between 2013 and 2017, I watched the country around me change through shortages, insecurity and hyperinflation. At 17, my family moved to Peru. Months later, I left for France alone.

I learned that the local language is a fundamental step toward understanding the culture of a new country. Still, the differences become clearer the longer you live there. Empathy, active listening and curiosity helped me adapt during this uncertain stage of my life.

I chose economics because I wanted to understand why some countries prosper while others fall behind. My intuition told me that institutions play a central role in securing long-term national stability. Applied Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Public Policy and Development at Toulouse School of Economics gave me tools to understand a problem at its root, diagnose it, define a plan and propose viable alternatives.

Econometrics, causal inference and political economy changed, for the better, how I approach my own questions. They helped me become someone who can observe their own thoughts, evaluate patterns and solve problems more creatively (metacognition).

At a remittance venture, I helped turn a mission I understood from family experience into financial models, market analysis and evidence for investors. Later, as the first person hired into an account management function at an M&A marketplace. Being the first in my role within the organization gave me the opportunity to build repeatable systems around my own work, because there were no existing processes or people who had done it before me.

Managing more than 200 companies and investors every day revealed underlying problems that needed repeatable solutions. That is where I began to stand out as a systems builder. Client incorporation needed a clearer sequence. Investor classification needed shared criteria. Abandonment needed earlier signals. In 2021, I designed InvestInc, an idea for accessible financial education. I researched it, joined an entrepreneurship programme and made prototypes. It never became a working product. I lacked the tools, confidence and habits to move through the barriers I saw.

Five years later, I built Amaru Invest in three months and put it in front of real users. I am also developing Hermes Fitness around a different recurring problem: training plans that people start but do not sustain. The tools changed, but so did I. Daily writing, meditation, exercise and repeated contact with users made difficult work easier to continue.
