Authenticity Is the Only Moat

In the age of AI, the most defensible thing you own is the one no model can replicate: you. Here is why authenticity is becoming the only real competitive advantage, and how my own optimism and stubborn faith in positive change have carried me through the hardest seasons.
In the age of AI, the most defensible thing you own is the one no model can replicate: you.
I believe in a present and future where authenticity is what sets humans apart from one another privately and publicly.
There is a quote I keep coming back to: "Always stick to what makes you weird, odd, strange, different. That's your source of power". By doing so, you will inevitably attract opportunities, people, places and responsibilities that fit your way of being, your true self. Nobody else can exactly copy them.
From personal experience, I know that my relentless optimism and faith towards positive change are key features of my own weirdness. I am the kind of guy who is always trying to see the positive outlook of everything that happened and I am always searching for something better next time, no matter how difficult the situation is. Maybe I developed this coping mechanism growing up in Venezuela and having optimistic parents (especially my dad) who were always open to surf crises like a professional.
A clear example: two years ago, I was working full-time at Deale while finishing my master's degree in Toulouse simultaneously. I barely had time to rest, socialize, or even get bored. Client calls, team meetings, onboarding sessions, exams, group assignments, paper reviews: all at once, every week, for months. I wanted to maintain the same level of performance at work and finish my academic journey while learning as much as possible from my classmates, teachers, and projects along the way. At the end, I succeeded but I learned that I couldn't have everything I wanted every time: I needed to be flexible for everything to work out. If I had let any grasp of pessimism (a bad call, a failed exam, a difficult meeting) poison my mentality, I definitely wouldn't have made it.
At the end, your experiences, personality and wisdom are now, more than ever, valuable for others. We have the opportunity to teach and co-create together. We are craving human connections and human struggles towards success.
This is why the moment we are living in matters. Information and content creation have never been so democratized to each individual worldwide. It is an unprecedented period in human history. A fact to be optimistic about.
The people with more diverse (and tough) experiences and knowledge will win the attention-seeking battle on social media (and the real world as well). Their communication has the potential to be most relatable and inspiring. The influence they can have on others is infinite.
Your authenticity is not just your competitive advantage; it is also the most powerful thing you can offer to someone you will never meet.
Another personal example: when I was 20 years old, during the pandemic, I was experiencing one of my darkest periods. Besides eating or working out, I could not experience joy or pleasure of any kind. One thing helped me manage this situation better, little by little: GaryVee's content. I came across GaryVee online during my very usual endless scrolling periods at that time. His optimism and positive mentality towards others inspired me to follow his example. I am a million miles away from being as successful or from helping as many people as he has. Even so, sharing these ideas really has an impact on people that you never imagined thanks to these now worldwide networks and algorithms.
Who has impacted you through their content without ever knowing you existed?
