Writing.

For years I have kept a private journal, in Spanish, English and sometimes French. What follows is a curated selection: 274 entries lightly edited for a reader, translated into English where needed, and stripped of names and things that belong only to the people who lived them. What remains is the shape of a mind trying to organize itself, one day at a time.

Filter by year or by theme. Entries appear newest first.

Private policies for public impact

As the year ends, I reflect on the habit of writing daily. It took more time than I expected to integrate this into my life. My framework is simple: if I want to lead large organizations or implement high-level public policies in the future, I must first focus on my 'private policies.' These are the internal systems and disciplines I implement within myself, regardless of the difficulties. This 'nano to macro' perspective allows me to build a base for transforming my identity. By changing my own beliefs and perception of reality, I will attract people on the same journey. The only existing limit is myself, and that is what makes the journey exciting. Awareness and discernment are my primary tools for making the difficult decisions that align with my long-term mission.

Escaping the valley of death

Any significant growth requires an inevitable period in the 'valley of death' - that initial phase where your expectations do not match reality and emotions run high. To exit this valley, one must follow the plan regardless of how one feels. This is the fastest way to see the gains of a long-term strategy. I am committed to mastering both technical engineering and interpersonal skills, even when the process is painful. I am learning to become comfortable in the uncomfortable. Momentum and inertia do not arrive through thinking; they only arrive through movement. Acting, even imperfectly, is better than visualizing an ideal without taking a single step.

The virtue of self-restraint and action

Reflecting on past social patterns, I recognize a 'cope mechanism' where I would isolate myself when feeling misunderstood. I lacked the tools to speak my mind and assumed others would not understand. I now realize this was an obsolete strategy. To evolve, I must build new social anchors. It will be uncomfortable at first, like the mental hurdle of going to the gym when you do not feel like it, but it is necessary to reach the next level. A true leader must be able to fight back, stand out, and speak up in moments of tension, or keep the sword sheathed when it is not worth it. Being 'dangerous' but exercising real self-restraint is where true virtue lies. This balance is key to staying hungry for knowledge while managing humility with perspective.

Finding the high-impact angle

I am considering how to approach the sectors of education, health, and infrastructure in that order of importance. I am looking for a profitable, sustainable, and scalable angle where I can apply my experience to fields that many see as uninteresting or overly burdened by public intervention. I want to use modern tools to feed my mind with new ideas and pathways. This is the moment to take a great leap. My goal is to find a high-impact niche where standardization and innovation can change things for the better. I must maintain the discipline to search for these opportunities even during periods where others decrease their workload.

Systematizing momentum and interpersonal intelligence

I am currently reflecting on how to improve workflows for investors and advisors. I believe I can systematize the team's effort by segmenting clients based on sentiment and behavior, modeling their actions through analogies of momentum and inertia. It is vital to formalize these ideas into a personal portfolio of playbooks while giving proper credit to collaborators. To execute this, I need positive energy and emotional clarity. I must remember that demonstrating understanding and empathy is an act of bravery toward those who respect and love you. My priority is to overcome internal hurdles and reach mastery in interpersonal intelligence by staying consistent with my decision-making criteria and avoiding strategic deviations.

Protecting the inner character

I recently discussed a coworker's interpretation of 'availability.' While I understand his perspective, it is not a value I share or would impose on the people I lead, as it can be easily distorted and negatively affect the organization. This realization reaffirms my commitment to following a different path. If I eventually leave, it might be said that I failed to adapt. In reality, I am choosing not to adapt to certain environments in order to protect my energy, character, and drive. External facts will not change my internal way of working. I am focused on building the cell from which all my future creations - projects, businesses, and mentorships - will emerge. I want to attract people of integrity who live by abstract principles backed by consistent action.

Vision as a driver for change

My visions of contributing to change in my home country, Venezuela, grow clearer every day. Whether it is through the music I listen to or the goals I set on my vision board, I am keeping my mission present in my visual field at all times. This conscious and subconscious reinforcement increases the probability that these goals will be met. I am focused on the point where my professional evolution meets my identity as a migrant. By building my internal foundations now, I am preparing for a future where I can be a part of a larger transformation. The goal is to keep pushing until the vision becomes reality.

Maintaining the chain of habit

As I head into the final weeks of the year, my focus is on performance and optimization. I am using my vision board as a daily reminder of what is truly a priority. Persistence and order are the tools that drive positive change. Even when I miss my usual wake-up time, I adapt. If I cannot hit the gym in the morning, I substitute it with a high-intensity routine later. I do not break the chain of the habit. My mission is to remain focused on the indispensable tasks - like refining investor classification algorithms - while maintaining the discipline of my personal standards. I am building an identity that constantly expands what I believe is possible.

The endurance game of connection

I am feeling a sense of urgency regarding my interpersonal intelligence. For nearly three years, I have justified a solitary existence with the belief that I do not need anyone or that I am fine on my own. While this might be possible, I have to ask if I am choosing this or simply responding out of fear. I have often used the excuse of avoiding low-quality connections, but the truth is I have not actively tried to find new clans or individuals with whom I truly connect in mind and spirit. Building meaningful relationships is an endurance game. Out of a hundred attempts, only a few may result in something significant. That rarity is precisely what makes them valuable. My path forward requires being my most genuine self, listening attentively, and treating everyone with respect, knowing that these actions will eventually form the core of my identity.

Proactivity and the social paradigm

I have long held a limiting belief that people do not want to hear what I have to say or know me deeply. I need to view social interaction the same way I view a long-term business transaction: it requires many failed attempts before finding the ideal candidate. Demonstrating my complexity as an individual is an act of courage. Furthermore, I cannot allow passivity to define my character. Proactivity is the solution. I must shift my paradigm to focus on what I can learn from others and what mysteries I might discover through them. Social intelligence is not just about me - it is about us. By eliminating prejudice and embracing curiosity, I strengthen my charisma and my vision of reality.

The high cost of defensive ego

There is a dangerous utilitarian perspective on sociability where we believe every conversation must have an underlying interest or goal. In the past, I have let this viewpoint make me defensive, prioritizing my ego because I felt above such transactions. This has carried a high opportunity cost in missed growth and connections. The fastest way to level up is through immediate feedback from people who can see my blind spots. Having more friends does not mean being less myself, it means building mutual support networks where trust prevails. I need to risk being genuinely kind to those my intuition highlights, and even to those it does not. Growth comes from discomfort. When you deploy the energy of your spirit outward without fear, it becomes an indestructible force.

Breaking patterns through integration

I previously believed that distancing myself from my family was a dominant strategy. I was wrong. Moving away from family backfires because, without realizing it, you end up repeating intergenerational patterns that you could have observed and addressed consciously. We are a part of them and they are a part of us. By integrating both the good and the bad, I gain true control over my own direction. I am choosing to be present with them for my own reasons, to learn from their experiences and anecdotes. This allows me to change the footprint I leave behind, not just for myself, but for those who will depend on me in the future. We are what we do, not what we say.

Prioritizing the internal compass

I chose to skip a social commitment recently to prioritize my own well-being and interests. It was an act of choosing what I actually wanted over what was expected. These types of decisions are essential when they are based on a consistent internal criteria - values, principles, and virtues chosen as the pillars of one's life. By protecting my time and energy, I can focus on my parallel projects: where to live, my next educational adventure, and my professional growth. The obstacle is the path, and I am grateful for the abundance of the journey.

Managing success and the ego

After helping a founder achieve a successful exit for his company, I am reflecting on how to manage my ego. To believe I was solely responsible would be a self-deception. The practical value of this achievement lies in knowing that I can repeat it - and even increase its impact - through consistent work and method. It is a game of positive randomness combined with a solid system. If my integrity remains intact and my work constant, even more incredible results are possible. Success is a validation of the process, not just a moment of luck.

Learning to follow to lead

To become a leader of organizations, one must first learn to be a follower for as long as necessary, learning to collaborate and connect with those around us. I am choosing to use the friction and mismatch of objectives I experience now as fuel to improve my active communication. I want to ensure my mission and vision are shared by my traveling companions. My ability to thrive in adverse and uncertain situations for a long-term common good is my defining characteristic. As Nietzsche said, knowing the 'why' allows one to overcome any 'how.' My focus must always remain on what is essential.

A calling for something larger

I am convinced that part of my destiny is to contribute real, sustainable, long-term value to solving structural problems in my home country alongside a team of brilliant, purposeful people. My calling is for something larger than my present circumstances. I am learning that if there are no structural changes, results will never be optimal. I seek the discernment to make strategic decisions for the common good. The deeper my spirit remains indomable, the closer I will be to attracting the talent, mentors, and opportunities that align with my vision. I work every day in that direction, without stopping.

Ambitious and grateful

I feel a deep sense of satisfaction for everything I have learned and implemented recently - starting an entire department, forming teams, and seeing ideas through. The errors I have made are invaluable lessons that I won't repeat. Experience has been both a pleasure and a struggle at the same time, which is normal. Life is cyclical, as is everything within it. It is time to look forward and remain grateful for what has been lived, while never stopping the search for more. One can be ambitious and grateful at the same time; they are not mutually exclusive.

The burden of responsibility

There is a profound sadness in living a life where shifting the burden of one's own responsibility is the norm. Doing so wears down the soul and limits the mind's capabilities, often breeding resentment toward others that is really just a reflection of one's own self-hatred. It is a living hell. I must always recognize this tendency within myself and never allow it to become my 'default mode.' Instead, I should feel compassion for those trapped in that habit and aim to influence them positively through example. Being the example is the only way to lead.

Mastering the small steps to greatness

I have noticed a recurring pattern in my life: I tend to have great ideas but often fail to execute them due to a lack of organization. My mind naturally prefers the big picture - the vision and the 'why' behind an action. However, I haven't sufficiently trained my ability to plan the granular details. Now that my execution is becoming sharper through repetition in both my personal and professional life, the next step is mastery of the details - the small, intermediate steps that lead to something great. By combining thinking, executing, and planning, I can attract like-minded individuals and achieve leaps in productivity. The future is built today, and every habit and small decision counts. I am choosing to focus my energy on what will make me feel good tomorrow, rather than just what feels pleasant today.

Visualization as a decision-making superpower

Meditation is not just about stillness; it is a tool for visualization. By visualizing what I will do during the day, I increase the probability of it actually happening. It provides awareness of the thoughts and images roaming the mind upon waking and gives me a sense of rationality and perspective for decision-making. This practice is a superpower that turns a reactive morning into a proactive one. It ensures that my actions are anchored to my own intentions rather than just responding to the responsibilities perceived as important by others.

"When thou risest unwillingly, let this thought be present, I am rising to the work of a human being."
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations V, 1
