Amaru Invest: building the tool I wanted my parents to have

Amaru means infinity, wisdom and the connection between the earthly world and the spiritual. I brought the name to life from Andean mythology.

My choice was deliberate. First, I wanted it to stand out from other conventional fintech names in the market. Growing up with Peruvian parents, their culture was always very present and emotionally appealing to me. Second, Andean mythology is full of fascinating stories and myths (such as the Legend of Manco Capac or the creation of Viracocha). Making them visible to the world is the first step for everyone to familiarize themselves with it and learn more about it.

Amaru Invest is inherently attached to it and the inspiration to build it came from a beloved place: my parents.

I decided to build a tool that they could use to make their own financial decisions. Growing up in Peru, economic conditions were scarce and money became the vehicle to achieve a certain level of stability. Their relationship with money was strictly attached to security and, therefore, survival. When they got married in 1989, they decided that they wanted to be far away from terrorism as well as political, economic and social instability they experienced in Peru two decades earlier. Venezuela was their best option, an apparent economically prosperous and welcoming country for all foreigners. For years, they achieved their desire for a stable life through entrepreneurship and business.

But their savings never "worked" for them. They always perceived investing as difficult, opaque, and dangerous, and they did not have the time daily to learn by doing. Unfortunately, they lacked knowledge and experience from the best performing investors in history.

At one point, the problem even extended to another generation.

During my academic years studying economics I read every book of investing available and I chose the best frameworks to follow. However, these mental maps, concepts, and formulas were not easily transferable to real-time market data. Even worse, making informed choices on specific assets (such as stocks, bonds, or commodities) through a centralized platform was virtually impossible. The result: it was really hard to acquire real taste or criteria to make long-term decisions about wealth. I could not compare points of view between experts or even connect and discuss with like-minded investors at a similar level to me.

At that point of my life, I imagined a world where I was the president of the board of a major corporation and I had a council of experts who helped me to make financial decisions and learn as I go. I imagined a world where the experts themselves could apply their criteria to any asset I picked automatically and leave the final decision to me. It was a world where negative perceptions towards investing just disappeared, and I was empowered to apply theory to real data in minutes. In this setup, I was finally the independent decision maker I always wanted to be.

That is how Amaru Invest was born.

Amaru is the value investing intelligence platform for all, from beginners to professionals. For me, "Amaru" is an ideal name to give to a tool that does three things.

Amaru brings the best wisdom from a collective that worked all their lives to build these frameworks. In Andean culture, this value is called Minka, meaning "collective labor". Amaru Invest brings human knowledge and experience together to benefit others in the process. This wisdom is infinite, intemporal, and it will last even after these legendary investors are no longer with us. The best part is that we make it actionable.

Builds community around a shared journey

Amaru allows you to interact with like-minded individuals who are at the same point of their investment journey as you are. The principle Ayllu (Community) is a key part of how Andean civilizations grew and developed to become consolidated empires such as the Inca Empire (builders of Machu Picchu). During registration, Amaru asks you questions about your patience, risk-aversion, goals and investing experience to adapt to your specific profile and consolidate it to an archetype. This archetype allows you to use the Community feature to share thoughts, portfolio ideas, ask questions, and even meet in real life with other users.

Offers an interactive research companion

Amaru offers an interactive way to research, value, compare and test decisions: the Amaru Agent. Conversing with the agent allows you to condense all the wisdom within Amaru, accessing information about any specific stock, bond or commodity. This possibility brings reciprocity to the table and that is called Ayni in Andean culture.

My goal is to help you build long-term wealth, learn, and not have to spend hours researching or deciding where to invest your money. You will be free to spend your precious time living your best life. Sumak Kawsay or "plentiful life" is an ancestral Andean philosophy that in Amaru is very well-honored.
